A New Beginning

Ever since I was 13, maybe 15, I've been on a failing mission. That mission was to be content. At the time, I didn't know that. At the time, I wanted to be healthy. I wanted to have my life all figured out. I thought I had a plan, and I did, but that was all it was.

I tried and failed so many times because I never planned on execution. I spent a lot of time visualising and hoping and writing things down , but I never developed the most important skill, which was tenacity, mental fortitude and sticktoitiveness.

How does one develop that anyway? I spent so much time being depressed at my failures until I decided to do some proverbial soul searching.  I tried meditating. I spent time with myself. I literally spoke to myself about what I wanted to achieve.  I spoke with friends and on top of that, I prayed about it. I watched motivational videos and read motivational books. I immersed myself in positivity until I felt it stifling the negativity.

Even with all that, I still had (and continue to have) lapses in my self-confidence and self-esteem. But I found that powerful thing within myself that keeps me going. I found an unending desire to be happy and I found that happiness is a choice.

Yes, I have to choose to be happy. Happiness, like all emotions, is a state of mind. Happiness is programmed by us into our own minds. I had to take responsibility for my own happiness. I had to physically and mentally voluntarily respond to the things that happen in my life, instead of just reacting.

And so I began, one small quest at a time, to choose happiness. Here is where this blog comes in. I find that journaling and documenting is useful and therapeutic because it engages the mind and the memory and so, it helps the mental programming of happiness. It also helps because I enjoy writing naturally anyway.

I'm not a fan of social media (call it paranoia) but I realize that sometimes it's the only way to share and communicate with friends and family I can't see readily. The bonus is if I ever randomly lose my memory it's all documented here!  😁😃

So, my goals:

1. Be happy

How?

1. Be physically healthy
2. Be mentally healthy
3. Be spiritually healthy
4. Have a healthy, loving family
5. Own a home
6. Have steady income
7. Be a successful entrepreneur
8. Publish my own books
9. Contribute to building Jamaica
10. Never stop learning

Welcome to my journey. I appreciate you. I love you. I'm ready.
